Going Live with an Existing Website
Section: Launch β Existing Website Path Video: Going LIVE with an Existing Website (Organic Acquisition System)
π§ Overview
This guide explains how to launch your newly simplified website if you're keeping your existing site (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, etc.) rather than using a Gym Launch template. The goal is to deactivate your old version and publish the new, simplified clone β all while maintaining your existing domain (e.g., www.abcfitness.com).
β When to Use This Guide
Only follow this if:
-
You are not using a Gym Launch template
-
Youβve made a clone of your current website and simplified it
-
Youβre ready to go live by replacing the old site with your new version
β Skip this guide entirely if you are using a Gym Launch website template. Instead, follow the "Launching with a Gym Launch Template" section.
π§ Step-by-Step Instructions
1. π Confirm You Have Two Versions of Your Site
You should now have:
-
Original Website β Your live, unedited site with your domain attached
-
Cloned Website β Your simplified version, edited inside the platform but not yet live
Make sure the clone contains all edits, forms, automation links, and mobile responsiveness before proceeding.
2. π Publish the New Website
In your platform (e.g., Wix, WordPress, Squarespace):
-
Log into your website builder account
-
Go to the cloned/simplified version
-
Find the option to publish or make live β often labeled:
-
βPublishβ
-
βGo Liveβ
-
βSet as Live Siteβ
-
3. π΄ Unpublish the Old Website
-
Navigate to the original website
-
Look for an option like:
-
βUnpublishβ
-
βDraftβ
-
βArchiveβ
-
βDisableβ
-
-
Apply that setting so only the new version is live going forward
4. π Transfer Your Custom Domain
You must move the domain (e.g., www.abcfitness.com) from the old site to the new one.
Hereβs how:
-
Go to your Domain or Site Settings
-
Find an option to assign or transfer domain
-
Choose your custom domain and reassign it to the new website
π This is usually simple if both versions are on the same platform (e.g., within the same Wix or WordPress account)
5. π Wait for DNS Propagation
It may take up to 4β6 hours for domain changes to fully take effect.
π During this time, you might see the old site or a temporary error screen β donβt panic.
6. π Test the Domain
Before moving on, make absolutely sure of the following:
-
Visit your website URL (e.g.,
www.abcfitness.com) -
Ensure it now loads the new, simplified site
-
Test on mobile and desktop
-
Click through: Forms, buttons, navigation, booking flows
β If everything works and points to the new site, youβre officially LIVE!
π Troubleshooting
If after several hours your domain still points to the old site:
-
Contact your website platformβs support team (e.g., Wix Support, WordPress Help)
-
Ask:
βCan you help me transfer my domain from my old site to my new site within my account?β
They should walk you through the exact steps to resolve it.
β οΈ Final Reminders
-
Never assume your site is live just because you changed a setting β always test it!
-
Make sure your lead forms, automations, and thank-you pages are still working
-
If your old site had tracking or pixels, re-apply those to the new version
